BALA, HOMA BAY COUNTY-More than 60 families have been affected by flooding in the Bala area of Koyugi Location, Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County, following heavy rainfall on Thursday night.
The Oluch River burst its banks, submerging homes and displacing 10 families, who have been moved to safer ground.

Area Chief Irene Ojwang confirmed that several household items, livestock, and crops were swept away by the raging floodwaters. She added that the affected families have been evacuated to designated safe locations, including local churches and Bala Comprehensive School, as heavy rains continues in the region.
Riwa Special Economic Zone
The flooding has also impacted ongoing construction at the Riwa Special Economic Zone, a project jointly undertaken by the national and county governments.
Transport along the Bala-Homa Bay Road has been disrupted, further complicating relief efforts.
Chief Ojwang urged residents to relocate to higher ground to prevent injuries and loss of life as the rainy season continues to affect parts of the country.
