The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has called off the planned doctors’ strike in Meru, which was scheduled to begin on March 6, after the county government agreed to address key demands raised by medics.

Union Secretary General Davji Attelah announced on Wednesday evening that the County Government has committed to resolving four critical issues, including promotion of doctors, recruitment of additional staff, approval of study leave, and absorption of contract doctors into permanent positions.

According to Attelah, the county has agreed to promote all doctors due in March.

‘We have 24 doctors being promoted to job groups N and R, while the remaining 65 will receive their promotion letters by April 1, 2026,” he said.

The two parties formalized the agreement by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
